Most plants don’t have a maintenance staffing problem.

They have a maintenance knowledge problem.

When a machine fails, the response is often:

“We need more technicians.”

But adding technicians to a broken system rarely fixes the root cause.

Ask yourself:

Are PMs equipment-specific?

Are procedures easy to access?

Are technicians given clear instructions?

Is knowledge captured after failures?

If the answer is no, then adding people simply adds more people to the same problem.

Reliability improves when knowledge improves.

Better maintenance starts with better knowledge.
